Yumiko Koshima (Yumi) was born in Kyoto and raised in Kobe, Japan. She studied classical piano from three to eight years old and taught herself jazz and improvisational composition as a teenager. She moved to Los Angeles in 2014 to continue her studies in jazz performance and composition attending Pasadena City College and California State University Northridge. While in California, Koshima has performed at Disneyland, the Light House, Beckman Auditorium at California Institute of Technology as a member of Caltech Jazz Big Band, the Ambassador Auditorium in Pasadena, and The Soraya is at California State University Northridge. Her new album “Imagination Canvas” is now available on Bandcamp, Spotify and Apple Music.
